Our Veterans Are Not Forgotten
Although public health concerns regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic necessitated the Henderson War Memorial Foundation and the American Legion to cancel traditional Memorial Day Services in Henderson, abbreviated services were held to ensure that Henderson refuses to allow its Veterans to be forgotten. Ceremonies in Central Park today, May 25, 2020 included placing of a wreath for each branch of the service and one to mark the Vietnam Veteran Memorial.
The ceremonies also included the Missing Man Table honorarium, a 21 gun salute by the Legion Honor Guard, and the playing of Taps. Though the official services were not held, several Henderson residents showed up at the park to help mark the occasion. All Foundation members and Legionnaires present were wearing their face masks to help ward off the spread of this insidious virus which has now infected 104 citizens and the caused the death of 4.
The Foundation and the Legion were terribly saddened by the cancellation of full Memorial Day Services but vow to be back as soon as safe and possible to do so. Thanks to all the citizens who backed our decision to put public safety in the forefront.
