2024 Memorial Day Speaker – Sarah Taylor

2024 Memorial Day Speaker – Sarah Taylor

After losing her son, Spc David Taylor (3/29/12), in an ammunition explosion while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Kandahar, Afghanistan, Sarah joined the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. in 2013.  Instrumental in reorganizing the Kentucky Department, Sarah served as treasurer, recording secretary, and as Chapter and State President.  In 2017, she was elected to the National Executive Board of AGSM where she worked her way up to National President (22-23).

Sarah’s tenure on the National Executive Board included numerous elected positions, appointments to executive committees (with legislative issues being her specialty), and opportunities to boost her drive to serve our Veterans, Active Military and Gold Star families.  Sarah’s fierce passion for our Vietnam Veterans, and her ability to build bridges and strengthen partnerships with other Veteran Service Organizations played a crucial role in AGSM’s invitation to be the Honorary Partner of the Vietnam War 50th Commemorative Welcome Home Celebration for Vietnam Veterans and their families in May 2023 and an advisor on the National Vietnam Veterans Day Committee.

Known for her sincerity, frankness, openness about the suicide epidemic, and unwavering support for mothers whose child had succumbed to their war demons, Sarah was chosen as the keynote speaker for the STOP SUI-SILENCE SUMMIT hosted by Angel Force USA in Palm Springs, California, and the opening and closing workshop for the Cohen Veterans Bioscience Brain Health Symposium.  Sarah is a known vocal advocate of bringing awareness to our nation of Military and Veteran suicide.

Sarah’s love of animals, being outdoors, and stance against horse slaughter fueled her to join her mother as Vice President of Three Haven Farms, dba Forever Home Farm Sanctuary, a 501c3 nonprofit horse and donkey rescue organization.

As her passion to serve grew, Sarah joined the General Samuel Hopkins Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she held board seats as Vice Regent, Chaplain, and Americanism and Service to Veterans.  Sarah has a deep love of country and a firm commitment on educating our youth about history and patriotism.  Sarah has co-chaired the Veterans Day program at South Middle School in Henderson, Kentucky.  She is a charter board member of the Chloe Randolph Organization and serves on the Henderson Veterans Memorial Foundation Board of Directors.

Sarah currently serves as the Honor and Remember Gold Star Coordinator, the Kentucky Run For The Fallen Board as Gold Star Liaison, and is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1114, American Legion Unit 233, and Rolling Thunder of Kentucky Chapter 1.

Sarah has served on the Veterans Day National Committee, American Gold Star Manor/Home Board, the Gold Star Coalition, the Vietnam Veterans 50th Commemorative, the National Vietnam Veterans Day Committee, and currently holds a seat for HUD’s National Suicide Prevention Board.

She works on the Welcome Home for the Bluegrass Honor Flight, Southern Indiana Honor Flight, and is a certified Hospice volunteer.

Sarah has been presented with two Kentucky Colonelships, which is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with numerous appreciation awards from across the country.  She was the 2022 Grand Marshall for Wreaths Across America Escort from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery.

Sarah is an incredible person with the energy of a dozen.  The Veterans Memorial Foundation is indeed fortunate to have her in our ranks.  We present her to you as this year’s Memorial Day Speaker.
